Nissan to put fuel efficiency gauge in all new models

 Japan's Nissan Motor Co. announced Tuesday plans to install a fuel efficiency gauge in all future new models in its latest effort to tap growing interest in energy-saving motoring.

Nissan said that based on its own tests it estimates the gauge could cut fuel consumption by an average 10 percent as drivers improve their "eco-driving habits" in response to the real-time gauge readings.

The automaker introduced a similar service in January through its Carwings navigation system for certain models.

Toyota To Delay Launch Of New Hybrids
 Tokyo (AFP) Aug 09, 2007
 Japan's Toyota Motor will delay by one or two years the rollout of new high-mileage hybrids with lithium-ion batteries because of safety concerns, a newspaper reported Thursday. Toyota's decision was prompted by worries that the batteries could overheat, catch fire or even explode, the Wall Street Journal reported in its online edition, quoting unnamed Toyota executives.
