iDirect Launches Global Edge Connect Wi-Fi Over Satellite Solution

Chicago IL (SPX) Jun 07, 2005
iDirect Technologies has announced the launch of their new Global Edge Connect solution to deliver last mile, wireless connectivity via satellite.

Global Edge Connect is a complete wireless ISP solution that will incorporate a comprehensive carrier-class, scalable OSS solution from industry leader Pronto Networks.

This new Wi-Fi over satellite solution will allow iDirect's service provider customers to easily and inexpensively deliver broadband service to rural towns and villages, campus environments, coastal regions, or any zone where mobile data is important.

"This is a very logical extension of the iDirect product suite," said John Kealey, President and CEO of iDirect Technologies.

"We are committed to not only providing the most powerful VSAT technology in the industry, but also incorporating the tools to help our customers deploy and manage networks, cut cost, and increase profitability. Global Edge Connect incorporates all the elements customers need to deploy fully configured wireless IP networks over satellite backbone.

Service providers utilizing the iDirect solution will be able to easily provision and manage remote networks that deliver broadband connectivity comparable to the quality, price and performance of digital terrestrial circuits such as DSL or Cable, without any geographic constraints."

Global Edge Connect combines the industry's most advanced two-way IP-based broadband satellite networking solution with the flexibility of wireless last mile access.

By integrating Pronto Networks' OSS, the solution provides network configuration, authentication, access control, and security, as well as a billing system supporting pre-paid, post-paid and roaming settlement.

The complete platform offers service providers a cost-effective, end-to-end solution that will enable them to quickly enter the market, expand their footprint, and achieve a rapid ROI.

"Global Edge Connect is a cutting edge solution that will bring reliable, affordable wireless broadband access to multiple hotspot locations as well as entire rural communities or 'hot zones,'" said Jasbir Singh, president and CEO of Pronto Networks.

The launch of the Global Edge Connect solution will allow iDirect satellite service providers to serve a broad number of users with a single satellite uplink/downlink to multiple hotspot locations as well as entire rural communities or 'hot zones.'

Integrating this capability into iDirect enabled networks will greatly simplify the process and reduce the cost of deploying remote wireless broadband IP networks.
