World Smallest A-GPS System-In-Package Packs A Sting

Global Locate, a leading provider of Assisted GPS (A-GPS) products, Monday introduced Stingray, a single package A-GPS system-in-package (SIP). Stingray incorporates Global Locate IndoorGPS baseband and RF technology, along with passive components, in the smallest form factor available in the market today.

The Stingray SIP offers mobile phone platform providers and handset manufacturers the highest performance A-GPS solution with sensitivity to -160 dBm. Stingray supports mobile-station based and mobile-station assisted modes and exceeds A-GPS cellular industry performance requirements as demonstrated in carrier field trials world wide.

In addition, Stingray implements traditional GPS autonomous mode for tracking applications, enabling continuous navigation in the toughest environments.

As a single package solution, Stingray reduces the design, layout, manufacturing and testing resources required to integrate A-GPS into a mobile terminal. This decreases front end costs, increases yield and enables a handset manufacturer to bring products with the A-GPS feature to market faster and with reduced risk.

Stingray is offered in a 9 x 9 mm, 67 pin "green" BGA (Bump Grid Array) package. Samples will be available in September of 2004, with volume production by the end of this year.

Stingray is software compatible with the GL-20000 and GL-LN22 IndoorGPS Chip Set, and is competitively priced at under $10 in 10,000 piece quantities.

A full-featured Hardware / Software Development Kit is available and provides developers and designers with the tools necessary to efficiently integrate the solution into production handsets.
