US Govt Orders Globecomm Lightweight, Rapid Deploy Flyaway Terminals

Globecomm Systems has reported that it has received an order for eight lightweight, rapid deploy flyaway terminals for secure broadband communications from a major United States Government customer.

The 0.77m lightweight rapid deploy terminal was first introduced by Globecomm in May 2005 and has an average list price of approximately one hundred twenty thousand dollars per unit.

It is composed of two suitcases, which meet the requirements for airline baggage check, can receive Internet Protocol (IP) data rates ranging from 64 kbps to 9.1 Mbps and send data rates from 64 kbps to 2 Mbps.

The terminal is suited for tactical support of military and peacekeeping operations and has been under going testing by various military agencies since its introduction.

The Company has identified multiple opportunities for this terminal exceeding six hundred units, which Globecomm intends to vigorously pursue.

David Hershberg, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Globecomm Systems, said, "This is a very exciting contract for Globecomm as it validates the use of the 0.77m meter in a military environment by a major U.S. government agency.

"The 0.77m is a unique product as it was built utilizing commercial off the shelf products and has passed full military environmental specification testing. There is a significant opportunity in the military marketplace for this unit and we are very excited to build on the success of this initial order."
