Three Chinese-Owned Businesses In Mongolia Attacked

A Chinese-owned hotel, restaurant and supermarket have been attacked in the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator, leaving one man injured, Chinese state media said Sunday.

A group of nearly 40 "gangsters" late Saturday tried to break into the Beijing Supermarket and destroyed a door and windows before leaving, Xinhua news agency quoted sources as saying in a report from Ulan Bator.

A Chinese restaurant was also attacked by unidentified people.

The same night the Fu Xing hotel was raided and its reception area seriously damaged, the agency said. One hotel guest was injured and three mobile phones were reported missing.

Xinhua said the Chinese embassy in the neighbouring nation had announced it would take measures to protect Chinese citizens and businesses in Mongolia. It gave no motive for the attacks.

Mongolian President Nambar Enkhbayar arrived in Beijing Sunday for a seven-day visit.
