Sweden Launches MASER 11 Sounding Rocket

 Esrange, Sweden (SPX) May 16, 2008
 Today at 04.00 UTC the microgravity rocket MASER 11 was successfully launched Thursday from Swedish Space Corporation's launching facility Esrange Space Center.

MASER 11 reached an apogee of 252 km and the experiments onboard spent 6 minutes and 26 seconds in microgravity.

MASER 11 carried four ESA financed microgravity experiments for studies of fluid physics and metallurgical processes.

"I consider MASER 11 a great success; the science teams are very satisfied with the flight results and will now evaluate their experiments more in detail in their home institutes" says Mr Wolfgang Herfs, Sounding Rocket Project Manager of the European Space Agency.

"I am extremely happy to conclude my professional career with a highly successful sounding rocket flight."

MASER is a sounding rocket programme for microgravity research managed by Swedish Space Corporation on behalf of ESA.

Swedish Space is the prime contractor for the Maser 11 mission. This includes the responsibility for all four experiment modules, the service module, the recovery system and the rocket motor and also launch and recovery.

Orbital Awarded Contract for Suborbital Launch Vehicle Research by US DoD

 Orbital Sciences has announced that it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Defense for the Theoretical Studies and Engineering Services (TSER) program. Orbital will serve as a prime contractor to support U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force research and development programs managed by White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) in New Mexico.
