Sterling VA (SPX) Jan 31, 2005 Sutron, a leader in remote hydro-met monitoring, has received notification from the China Meteorological Administration that Sutron's SatLink2 DCP/Transmitter Logger (SL2-G312-1) is certified for operation on China's new FY2C Satellite. "Sutron is the first and only provider of Data Collection Platform (DCP) Satellite Transmitters to be certified for operation on China's first geostationary satellite. This certification also makes Sutron the only satellite-transmitter-with-datalogger certified for weather satellites now over every continent in the world," commented Dr. Raul, McQuivey, President and CEO of Sutron. "This is a significant opportunity for Sutron. We anticipate that China will invest substantial resources in real-time monitoring systems to improve weather forecasting, water resource management, flood warning, hydropower production and many other applications." Dr. McQuivey continued, "Sutron's SatLink2 DCP/Transmitter Logger is now certified for the following geostationary satellite systems: - GOES East and West covering North and South America, and the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans; - METEOSAT covering Europe and Africa; - INSAT/KALPANA covering India and the Middle Eastern region; - GMS/MTSAT operated by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) covering the Asia/Pacific region; and - FY2C covering China and surrounding regions." "Because SatLink2 communicates with all major weather satellites worldwide," he added, "it makes possible earth and ocean observation, data collection, and data exchange in real-time, without delays caused by national differences in software format, etc. Of course, global, real-time monitoring and modeling of weather and other environmental phenomena will help provide early warning of natural disasters such as the recent tsunami in the Indian Ocean region." Satlink2 Logger/ Transmitter is Sutron's environmental-satellite data logger and transmitter that remotely collects, then relays vital weather/water data worldwide. Satlink2 is a stand-alone logger and transmitter. For many simple applications, Satlink2 handles all functions alone - measuring, logging, formatting and transmitting the data. The built-in SDI-12 interface gives Satlink2 the ability to make measurements for a wide range of sensors including water level, water quality, wind, and temperature. The built-in tipping bucket interface also allows you to measure precipitation without adding an expensive SDI interface. Satlink2 supports multiple measurement schedules to provide data any time it is needed. After making measurements, Satlink2 can perform simple scaling of the data and then log the data into its secure flash memory. The log in Satlink2 is capable of holding over 120,000 readings. If there is ever any problem retrieving the data through the satellite, the data can always be retrieved from the log memory.
