Suez, Transfield win Adelaide water contract

Paris (AFP) Feb 9, 2011
Suez Environnement and Australian partner Transfield Services have won the contract to supply water and waste water services to Adelaide and the surrounding area, the French group said Wednesday.

The contract, generating revenue of 840 million euros ($1.14 billion), is to supply water and waste water services to 1.1 million inhabitants in and around the fifth-largest city in Australia.

"This first contract to operate and maintain water services in Australia represents a milestone for Suez Environnement," the company's chief executive Jean-Louis Chaussade said in a statement.

Following on from a contract for a desalination plant in Melbourne, "this new contract strengthens our position in the Australian water market and is in line with our long-term partnership strategy with the country's authorities," he added.

The new 10-year contract was awarded by the government of South Australia.
