Mobile Tracking System Features Start/Stop Motion-Monitoring
Tyler - Mar 16, 2004 For the trucking industry, accurate logging of time is vital. In addition to cost considerations, companies are governed by strict hours-of-service regulations. Until now, proper, efficient management of time-logging was difficult, but Teletouch Communications has changed all of that with the introduction of its new generation of wireless mobile asset tracking products with start/stop motion detection. In addition to traditional location reporting features, these new tracking products notify fleet managers when a trailer is in motion and when it breaks a designated "geofence" (the borders of a specific area, such as a terminal). When a trailer starts or stops moving, the devices transmit the location and other data, via satellite, to the mapping software at the trucking company's fleet management office. By knowing when a trailer is moving and when it is on course, companies can log time more effectively and develop more efficient routing, billing and payment procedures. "One of this product's greatest benefits is that, for under $350, Teletouch customers are getting a unit with a motion feature that isn't even available on competing products that cost two or three times as much," said Teletouch President J. Kernan Crotty. "In addition, our mobile asset tracking product sends notifications only when alarms are triggered or at predefined intervals, meaning it costs Teletouch customers only pennies to know where a trailer is and when it started or stopped moving." The entirely self-contained, durable and cost-effective tracking products, which are attached discreetly to trailers, are available in three formats. All three feature the start/stop functionality. There is a one-way device that sends reports at designated intervals, a two-way device that is "pingable," and a line-powered device that is attached to a power source on the tractor or trailer portion of a truck and sends out information regarding location, fuel level and overspeed. Teletouch also makes these devices with a detachable antenna, meaning the device can be mounted on flatbed trailers and inside the chassis rails of trailers. "Teletouch is the only company that provides start/stop notification capabilities, and we're the only company that can mount a device so it is possible to track a flatbed trailer or a chassis," Crotty said. "Pair those unique elements with our price points, and Teletouch is the only choice when it comes to asset tracking."
