Englewood - November 2, 1998 - The world's largest Solid State Recorder ever to be deployed in space was launched earlier this month as part of the Space Technology Experiment (STEX) satellite program. "This historic achievement continues the testament of our commitment to be the leader in innovation and technology for solid state storage products into the new millennium," said SEAKR's President and CEO Col. Raymond Anderson. "I am proud and privileged to serve with such a talented and creative team. Your tenacity and can do attitude have made this momentous achievement possible." Anderson added. SEAKR's 51 Gbit Solid State Recorder, the first to use 64 Mbit DRAM technology in a space based environment, continues the company's long line of industry firsts. The STEX Satellite recorder uses an innovative analog interface to record and playback high fidelity analog signals, delivering performance significantly better than analog tape recorders. According to Ian Webb, SEAKR's STEX Program Manager, "The P9 architecture was selected for this effort due to its unique modular design. This proven architecture permits the use of an isolated IO module, allowing low cost interface customization without impacting the rest of the design. To date, we have delivered eight P9 recorders with another 28 on order. The large backlog of P9 recorders has allowed us to set up a dedicated manufacturing line, further reducing the cost and lead time for these systems." The Space Technology Experiment (STEX) program is run by the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). It is the first in a series of planned small satellite missions sponsored by the Advanced Systems and Technology Directorate (AS&TD) of the NRO to demonstrate various advanced enabling space technologies.
