Ottawa ON (SPX) Sep 01, 2004 SkyWave, a provider of Inmarsat D+ satellite terminals, airtime and services, Tuesday announced that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved a 15-year license for SkyWave to expand operations into the United States. SkyWave offers both D+ satellite terminals and network airtime, enabling customers in the marine, land mobile and fixed site industries to acquire asset intelligence and exception reporting anytime, anywhere. In 1999, SkyWave was the first Inmarsat D+ provider to operate in the United States and provided specialized D+ services to U.S. government agencies. With the extended FCC license, SkyWave continues to offer commercial Inmarsat D+ services, providing full, global coverage that lets companies seamlessly roam into and out of the United States to track and monitor their assets from anywhere in the world. Operating worldwide with 62 service provider partners, SkyWave has sold more than 33,000 units, making it the world leader in Inmarsat D+ satellite terminals and service. With its proven experience and expertise in providing Inmarsat D+ asset management products and services to the marine, land mobile, fixed site and defense markets, SkyWave currently has solutions operating on every continent and in every ocean. "Gaining an FCC extension to commercially sell our satellite terminals and network airtime in the United States will allow SkyWave to expand its market in asset tracking and management to a larger customer base," said Pui-Ling Stanley Chan, CEO and managing director of SkyWave. "Our U.S. customers and partners will benefit from our global satellite footprint, ensuring seamless operations and control over their asset management and security applications." SkyWave solutions are deployed in some of the world's most rugged environments. Typical applications include the remote fleet management of trucks, shipboard security alert systems and tuna fishing buoy sensors. SkyWave's Inmarsat Standard D+ airtime service is a low-speed data service operating on Inmarsat's global network of L-band mobile service satellites.
