Security Council tightens UN sanctions on Iran
United Nations (AFP) March 3, 2008 The Security Council voted overwhelmingly Monday to tighten UN sanctions on Iran over its refusal to suspend its sensitive nuclear fuel work which the West fears is aimed at developing nuclear weapons. A resolution sponsored by Britain, France and Germany gained the backing of 14 of the council's 15 members. Indonesia abstained. London (UPI) Mar 03, 2008Feb. 11 marked the 29th anniversary of the founding of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Yet, as nations across the world have made huge technological and scientific advancements over the past three decades, Tehran's rulers have taken the people of ancient Persia back to the closest thing to the Middle Ages.
