SPAR Aerospace and ITT Electronic Warfare Solutions For C130 Hercules

The C-130 is the workhorse of most air forces and provides a vital function, transporting people, supplies and equipment to, from, between or within a theater of war. Air transport is also the quickest way to respond to natural disasters and emergencies, often in dangerous or hostile environments. The C-130 is vulnerable to a variety of threats, including surface-to-air missiles, self-propelled, infrared and radar threats.

L-3 Communications has announced that its SPAR Aerospace (L-3 SPAR) subsidiary has signed a teaming agreement with ITT Electronic Systems Division (ITT Electronic Systems) for the joint development, marketing and implementation of Electronic Warfare (EW) solutions for the global C-130 Hercules market, as well as for other military aircraft platforms.

Under the terms of the agreement, L-3 SPAR will be the prime contractor, with ITT Electronic Systems acting as the system provider and integrator for EW solutions. EW is a suite of electronic warfare technologies, systems and services that enable mission success and survivability for aircraft, and include advanced threat warning, situational awareness and electronic and electro-optic countermeasures equipment and suites.

"With C-130s operating in war zones or in harm's way supporting critical missions, the demand for EW has increased dramatically," said Patrice Pelletier, president of L-3 SPAR. "Air forces around the world have recognized how important it is to protect their air transport assets and ensure the safety of their personnel when operating in hot spots like Iraq or Afghanistan. This collaboration with ITT Electronic Systems reflects L-3 SPAR's dedication to offering C-130 operators a broad spectrum of products and services and our commitment to being the leader in C-130 total solutions."

The L-3 SPAR/ITT Electronic Systems EW solutions will be offered as part of L-3 SPAR's Herc2020(TM), a total life extension solution for E and H model C-130 Hercules transport aircraft, as well as a stand-alone special mission solution for other platforms.

"We're pleased to bring our modular, scaleable family of platform protection solutions to this team," said Chris Bernhardt, president of ITT Electronic Systems. "This extends our capability as an electronic warfare suite and systems integrator to the C-130, helping to protect those who are called into harm's way. The men and women flying these missions deserve the best when it comes to their safety, and the L-3 SPAR/ITT Electronic Systems partnership delivers the highest level of security with low-risk solutions of uncompromising quality."

ITT Electronic Systems is a global provider of electronic warfare solutions, supporting a wide range of fixed and rotary wing platforms. Customers span all U.S. military services and approved foreign governments. ITT Electronic Systems has extensive experience on the C-130 platform and offers both stand-alone and integrated solutions.
