Mclean VA (SPX) Sep 19, 2005 Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) has announced that Roberto L. Vasquez joined the company's Intelligence Group as vice president of Department of Defense Space Operations for the National Security & Space (NS&S) Business Unit. NS&S's professionals provide systems development, systems engineering and integration, information technology and professional services to support a diversified set of DoD, national, federal, defense industry, and commercial customers. "Throughout his career, Rob Vasquez's proven leadership has been instrumental in the success of a number of satellite and space programs of national and international importance," said Lawrence Prior, president for SAIC's Intelligence Group. "The expertise and know-how Rob brings to his new role helps SAIC further our pursuit to provide the best possible solutions for our Department of Defense customers." Vasquez delivers more than 20 years of experience in space and satellite programs. Most recently, Vasquez served as program director for XM Satellite Radio for The Boeing Company. Prior leadership roles with Boeing and Hughes Space and Communications include serving as general manager of Boeing Electron Dynamic Devices; director of engineering for all U.S. Air Force satellite programs; director of the New Product Design Center for Boeing Satellite Systems; and satellite program manager for the $900 million Thuraya Mobile Satellite System - the basis for the world's first commercially successful satellite mobile telecommunications system. Vasquez received his bachelor's degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a master of science and a doctoral degree in engineering from Stanford, and his master of business administration degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). As SAIC vice president of DoD Space Operations, Vasquez will be based out of the NS&S office in Torrance, Calif. SAIC is the largest employee-owned research and engineering company in the United States, with annual revenues of $7.2 billion and more than 43,000 employees in over 150 cities worldwide.
