Raytheon Transitions GBS Sat Broadcast Manager To Full Simulcast In Pacific
Reston VA (SPX) Nov 10, 2004 Raytheon's Global Broadcast Service Satellite Broadcast Manager in Wahiawa, Hawaii, transitioned to full simulcast operations in the Pacific on Oct. 12, 2004. This marks the full operation of the Enhanced Architecture System that supports legacy receive suites and next-generation Internet protocol receive suites for the Joint Service warfighters in the Pacific. "This is a monumental event culminating a three-year prototype, design, implementation, integration and test effort," said Guy DuBois, vice president of Operational Technologies and Solutions for Raytheon. "GBS combines resources from across Raytheon to meet the requirements of the customer and ultimately the user." This is the first of two planned upgrades that encompass a technology refresh of the GBS satellite broadcast manager transmit suites in Wahiawa, Hawaii; Norfolk, Va.; and Sigonella, Italy, with commercial off-the-shelf technologies employing Internet protocol transport. The second simulcast transition will occur at the Norfolk and Sigonella facilities next year. Both upgrades are to the standards-based Enhanced Architecture System. GBS supports the simultaneous broadcast of information to multiple warfighters using transportable receive terminals on the ground and fixed receivers on surface and subsurface vessels. GBS wideband broadcasts consist of imagery, video (military and commercial), and data including intelligence, unmanned aerial vehicle feeds, logistics data, maps, weather, and operational orders. Space Group To Activate New Unit
Colorado Springs CO (SPX) Jan 6, 2006Air Force Reserve Command's 310th Space Group will travel deeper into the space program when it activates a new unit Jan. 7. Headquarters Reserve National Security Space Institute will be a Reserve associate unit to the National Security Space Institute in Colorado Springs, Colo. The institute is the Department of Defense's focal point for providing education about space power in joint warfighting. |
