Racy Greenpeace video aims to preserve forests
The Hague (AFP) Aug 5, 2008 Environment lobby Greenpeace has released a racy video called "Forest Love," with fondling, moaning and gyrating trees to revitalise a campaign against illegal logging. The suggestive clip was meant to remind the European Commission of the importance of protecting the world's forests, said a statement on the website of the Amsterdam-based body. "The European Commission has delayed a vital vote on protecting forests from illegal logging till September. We want to make sure the commissioners don't forget about it during their summer holiday." The video starts off innocently enough, with a gentle brushing of branches against tree trunks, and leaves kissing. As the human breathing in the background grows heavier and the rhythm of the music picks up, a leaf tickles suggestively at a crevice in the tree, followed by a female crying out as a branch nestles into a cavity in the trunk. A crescendo of rocking and groaning ensues, with the entire tree canopy shaking violently before the music stops abruptly and the chaos ends in a final sigh. In its statement, entitled: "Show the forests some love", Greenpeace urges its followers to support the anti-logging cause. "Take pictures and/or videos of yourself and your friends spreading the love in a forest," it directs. These would be put together in a "collaborative video that we'll show the European Commission in September". Supporters are also urged to sign a petition urging the commissioners to adopt legislation that will ensure all timber products that enter the European market were from legal sources and well-managed forests. "As the world's biggest wood importer, Europe has a unique responsibility to help stop deforestation, illegal logging and its impacts on climate, biodiversity and forest communities," the statement said.
