Paging Market Remains Strong In Asia
Charlotte - December 1, 1998 � The outlook for advanced and two-way paging in Asia is a healthy one measured by the success of an international paging symposium jointly organized by Glenayre and Motorola. More than 300 senior representatives from paging operators in eight Asian countries attended the ReFLEX Technology Symposium �98 to exchange information on the latest ReFLEX technology and applications, network migration strategies and market findings on two-way paging. The symposium took place over the past few weeks, beginning in Beijing and then travelling to Taipei before concluding in Bangkok, Thailand. "There was an extremely positive response from attendees who expressed great interest in the applications and efficiencies ReFLEX technology enables, as well as the best strategies to migrate their networks," said Lee Ellison, Glenayre�s senior vice president of sales and marketing, worldwide paging operations. "The symposium gave us the opportunity to present the technical and business strategies Asia�s paging operators can employ to offer advanced messaging services and applications." "With more than ninety million paging subscribers, Asia represents a huge potential market for advanced ReFLEX protocol-based messaging," said Motorola�s Fernando Gomez, vice president and general manager, paging products group east. "In fact, by the end of next year, The Strategis Group predicts that more than 26 million pagers will be sold in China, India, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand alone," Gomez continued. "We are encouraged by the high level of interest in two-way paging expressed by the symposium delegates for the launch of ReFLEX protocol-based based services in Asia during the next couple of years," Gomez concluded. Representatives from PageNet, SkyTel and PCIA were also present to communicate the advantages and benefits of advanced paging. Delegates from China, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, India, New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the USA attended the symposium.
