PacketPointe Communications To Deploy Direcway Broadband-Via-Satellite

PacketPointe has constructed a multi-million dollar company-owned data center and network operations center to house the data and remotely manage customer's facilities.

Germantown - Oct 22, 2003
Hughes Network Systems has won a contract with Utah-based packetPointe Communications, Inc. Under the terms of the contract, HNS will provide packetPointe, a leading provider of customized energy management and equipment management software, with a private network to support multi-site operations for its customers in the restaurant, convenience store, and retail grocery store industries.

PacketPointe will deploy its IT based solution to monitor, manage, and control HVAC, refrigeration, lighting, video, and fuel devices through a standard internet browser that will run over DIRECWAY. Companies running the technology will be able to operate high speed credit card processing, digital video monitoring, asset maintenance and management reporting, equipment failure notification, and low cost, high-speed broadband connectivity.

By physically interfacing with multiple devices across the enterprise, the packetPointe system enhances the performance of critical assets enabling organizations to bridge gaps in visibility, efficiencies, and productivity to improve overall bottom line performance.

"When it came to choosing our satellite technology partner, HNS far surpassed its competitors by possessing the greatest product knowledge, competitive price structure, and a long standing track record in the industry," said Bob Beelek, president of packetPointe.

"In a time when Telco companies are failing, it was vital to packetPointe to engage with a partner who has a solid financial backing and a commitment to quality that matched our own."

"Deploying packetPointe applications over DIRECWAY will significantly reduce packetPointe's total cost of ownership for the Company's network. In addition, by managing a single platform by a single source vendor packetPointe will eliminate the need to add additional equipment, additional connections and additional resources to manage the network," said Mike Gorsuch, vice president of sales for Hughes Network Systems.

"Now their customers will be able to leverage the capabilities of the DIRECWAY network to manage their mission-critical applications and meet the needs of their specific operations."

Salt Lake City-based packetPointe provides an integrated suite of low- cost, high-tech solutions to companies in the restaurant, convenience store, and retail grocery store industries. PacketPointe designs and develops customized energy management and equipment management software that captures data from organizations' critical enterprise assets including point-of-sale (POS) systems, storage tanks, refrigeration units, and other business systems.
