San Mateo CA (SPX) Nov 28, 2005 Orbital Data has announced an OEM agreement with DataPath to provide optimized satellite communications solutions for the U.S. Department of Defense. The solutions will enable quicker transfers of time-sensitive data to military units around the world, often in mobile settings, such as Humvees in combat situations. Designed to accelerate critical application performance over wide area networks (WANs), Orbital Data's TotalTransport software with AutoOptimizer technology improves application response time and data delivery speeds. It enables virtually any application that sends data between locations to run faster, increasing data throughput by up to 200 times and application response time up to 400%. Orbital Data also offers a completely transparent solution for IP-based WANs, eliminating the need for any changes to current network troubleshooting tools, network services or applications. With the company's AutoOptimizer technology, its WAN appliances auto-discover, auto-configure and auto-tune themselves to provide greater ease of deployment and ongoing management of WAN operations. With the integration of Orbital Data's WAN optimization and application acceleration technology, and DataPath's mission-critical communications solutions for extreme environments, U.S. Department of Defense troops in theater can further increase the speed of their application's throughput. AutoOptimizer auto-configures Orbital WAN appliances and then dynamically tunes them using a combination of acceleration tools, including multi-level compression, TCP flow control, application-specific protocol enhancements and service class policies. The simplicity of AutoOptimizer's plug-and-play approach and its ability to automatically and dynamically tune the system for best WAN performance are important requirements for battlefield communications, particularly as military networks increase in scale and complexity.
