Dulles - July 9, 1999 - Orbital Sciences says it has booked over $600 million in new orders for its space and ground infrastructure systems during the first six months of 1999, bringing the total firm contract backlog to approximately $2.1 billion, with an additional $2.2 billion pending. "Orbital continued to win new orders for our infrastructure systems products at a healthy rate during the first half of 1999," stated Mr. David W. Thompson, President and Chief Executive Officer. "In the last 18 months, Orbital has booked over $3.1 billion of new orders, reflecting continued strong domestic and international demand in our targeted market segments," he added. Orbital's space and ground infrastructure systems consist of satellites and other space systems, launch vehicles, electronics and sensors, and ground systems and software. Its largest infrastructure product sector, satellites and related space systems, received approximately $185 million of new orders so far this year. In addition, launch vehicle new orders exceeded $80 million, electronics and sensors bookings topped $160 million, and ground systems and software contracts totaled over $180 million in the first half of 1999.
