OAISYS Announces Solar Energy System Installation
Tempe AZ (SPX) May 01, 2008 OAISYS proudly announces it has completed installation of solar electric panels on its headquarters facility at 7965 South Priest Drive. The installation of the 10-kilowatt direct current system is expected to generate approximately 16,000 kilowatt hours of electricity every year. By using this solar energy system, the company will be eliminating an estimated 19,305 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions over the first year. This volume is equivalent to the emissions from just more than nine road trips from Los Angeles to New York. Saving that volume of emissions is the carbon-reducing equivalent to planting 65,000 square feet, or approximately 1.5 acres, of trees. Louis "Skip" Welch, the company's founder and Chief Technology Officer, began developing an interest in solar power years ago and recently launched a side venture, My Solar, LLC, to install solar panels for home and business use. "Particularly in the Phoenix area, known as 'the Valley of the Sun,' solar energy just makes sense. Going solar is part of us doing what we can to be an environmentally responsible business. Many companies talk about undertaking so-called 'green' initiatives. At OAISYS, we're taking real action by implementing measures that make an immediate positive impact," said Welch. "OAISYS has been committed to community improvement for quite some time. Many employees carpool or ride a bicycle into work," added Brian Spencer, President of OAISYS. "In fact, over two years ago when we selected our current location a shower facility was a requirement. We did that to overcome objections by some who wanted to avoid using a car for their commute. Adding the solar energy system is another step in our vision of corporate responsibility." Installation began in early April, and it is expected the solar electric system will become fully operational in early-to-mid May.
