Framingham, MA (SPX) Jun 25, 2006 NMS Communications, a leading provider of communications technologies and solutions for converged and mobile networks, today announced it has successfully completed interoperability testing between its AccessGate RAN backhaul optimizer and iDirect Technologies' iNFINITI series of VSAT (very small aperture terminal) routers. The adoption of IP technology and its support for shared bandwidth allocation is becoming an increasingly attractive option for the reduction of mobile network backhaul expenses. The coupling of iDirect's IP-based VSAT transmission capabilities with NMS's optimization of mobile voice and data traffic delivers a highly compelling value proposition to mobile operators around the world. As a result of AccessGate achieving interoperability with iNFINITI routers, NMS has been admitted as a Certified Application Partner in iDirect's IP Alliance Program. iDirect's Certified Application Partners are industry-leading network software and equipment developers and manufacturers who are committed to delivering best-in-class IP solutions to the marketplace. "iDirect Technologies works closely with our IP Alliance members to extend cost-effective satellite-based communications solutions to locations where terrestrial infrastructure is either unavailable, takes too long to implement or is too costly," said Mick Gardina, senior director, business development at iDirect. "NMS's AccessGate interoperated very effectively with our iNFINITI routers, enabling further backhaul cost efficiencies that are so critical to mobile operators. NMS has a solid reputation in the RAN backhaul optimization market, and we are pleased to have them as a member of the Alliance." "Mobile operators around the globe are increasingly looking to IP-based backhaul over satellite technology as an efficient solution that can be implemented both quickly and cost-effectively," said Dan Daly, vice president and general manager for NMS's network infrastructure business unit. "iDirect has clearly established itself as the market leader in satellite-based bandwidth sharing systems. By interoperating with iDirect's iNFINITI routers and being accepted into the company's IP Alliance Program, NMS is demonstrating it is at the forefront of delivering IP over satellite backhaul optimization solutions that will allow mobile operators to rapidly expand and grow their networks to meet subscriber growth and demand for new services."
