NEC Awards TCSI ICO Network Management Contract

Alamdea, Calif - June 16, 1998 -
TCSI Corporation, a global provider of software to the telecom industry, has been selected by NEC to deliver a state of the art network management system (NMS) for ICO's new global satellite business.

TCSI's and NEC's solution will enable ICO to deploy a standards-based, fully distributed system with extremely high availability. ICO Global Communications (ICO) is a private company established in January 1995 to provide satellite-enabled, global, mobile personal communications services.

The system will provide network management functionality to support the ICONET and interconnections with existing terrestrial public telephony, data and mobile networks. The objective is to use this system to help quickly establish a leadership role for ICO in the satellite industry via an advanced NMS. The NMS system, once globally deployed, will be used in all of the 12 Satellite Access Nodes (SANs) and in global Network Management Centers in Japan and the UK. Although NEC and TCSI did not disclose the exact dollar figure, the parties indicated that the NMS project itself is valued at well over $10 million.

"We are extremely pleased that TCSI has joined this significant project as one of our sub-contractors. This team will create the world's most advanced system for managing network and service elements which will provide ICO's global communications service," said Mr. Takatsukasa, General Manager, of NEC's Communications Control System Division. "We believe the work our team delivers will fundamentally affect the way the world accesses mobile communications services."

"TCSI's strengths are a perfect fit for this project. We understand how to leverage key technologies to create innovative and responsive solutions while complying with important telecommunication standards that ensure system longevity," said Bart Heenan, Vice President and General Manager Asia/Pacific, TCSI. "Working with NEC, we will help ICO stake a dominant position as the mobile communications industry continues to evolve."

Satellite Launch To Boost DTH In India
Calcutta, India (SPX) Dec 28, 2005
The successful launch Thursday of India's heaviest satellite from spaceport of Kourou in French Guyana may have boosted the country's space research efforts to yet another level, but it has also lifted the spirits of at least three Direct-To-Home televisions broadcasters, one of which has been waiting for years to launch its services in India.
