Magellan and Ionics Ship Low-Cost ORBCOMM Modem

Santa Clara - September 8, 1999 -
Magellan Corp, a unit of Orbital Sciences and Ionics Circuits USA of Milpitas, Calif. has announced shipments of the first Magellan designed ORBCOMM OEM satellite modem.

Ionics Circuits, which has already begun production of the Magellan OM satellite modem, is planning to significantly increase production in the upcoming months to fill orders that Magellan began accepting this summer. The OM satellite modem is also available through Magellan Wireless Communications dealer network.

The Magellan OM satellite modem is a complete ORBCOMM VHF transceiver with an integral 10-channel GPS receiver that offers system integrators a robust positioning solution for mobile tracking applications.

The satellite modem and GPS receiver are both fully Y2K compliant, and worked flawlessly during last weeks GPS End of Week Rollover.

Magellan and Ionics began their business relationship with the formation of a manufacturing agreement in July that is aimed at providing low cost, high performance OEM products to the wireless marketplace.

Under the agreement, Ionics Circuits is responsible for producing the Magellan OM satellite modem, which uses the ORBCOMM low-earth-orbit satellite constellation for bi-directional data communications.

"The agreement provides Magellan with state-of-the-art manufacturing and quick turnaround capabilities," said Thomas Hunter, vice president & general manager of Magellan Wireless Communications.

Hassan Sorkhabi, senior vice president and general manager for Ionics Circuits stated, "We are very pleased and excited to be the full-service provider of manufacturing and GPS test services for Magellan Wireless Communications OM satellite modem.

"This partnership is a significant win for Ionics Circuits here in the US, as it will be for our facilities worldwide in the future. We look forward to supporting Magellan as their growth continues," added Sorkhabi

Ionics Circuits USA, Inc. is a leading full service electronics contract manufacturer to original equipment manufacturers worldwide. The companys integrated solutions include printed circuit board assembly layout and design, complete prototyping services, complex turnkey printed circuit board assembly, system assembly and a full array of test services including RF and GPS testing. All facilities are ISO 9002 certified.

Satellite Launch To Boost DTH In India
Calcutta, India (SPX) Dec 28, 2005
The successful launch Thursday of India's heaviest satellite from spaceport of Kourou in French Guyana may have boosted the country's space research efforts to yet another level, but it has also lifted the spirits of at least three Direct-To-Home televisions broadcasters, one of which has been waiting for years to launch its services in India.
