Middletown - Feb 16, 2004 Tomorrow at the 2004 Miami International Boat Show, North American mariners will be introduced to KVH Industries, Inc.'s new Tracphone F33, one of the most compact high-powered satellite communications system available. Tracphone F33 offers global voice coverage and is the first antenna compatible with Inmarsat's Fleet F33 service to also provide access to not only Fleet's 9.6 Kbps data channel but also the high-speed 64 Kbps Mobile Packet Data Service (MPDS). MPDS provides a high-capacity, always-online connection on which users pay only for the data sent and received - not for the time online. This innovative method of connecting to the Internet via satellite provides web access without the constraints of a pay-by-the-minute connection. The Tracphone F33 antenna comes in two configurations: a 19" dome matching KVH's TracVision G4/4 satellite TV antennas and a more compact 14" dome for small boat installations. "The versatile Tracphone F33 makes global satellite communications and high-speed Internet access practical on smaller recreational and commercial vessels for the first time," said Ian Palmer, KVH's vice president of satellite sales. "This innovative new antenna, together with our Inmarsat Airtime service, adds to our satellite communications portfolio, enabling KVH to bring voice, fax, and high-speed Internet to vessels ranging from small leisure craft to the largest commercial vessels around the globe." Thanks to its two dome sizes, the Tracphone F33 is suitable for vessels as small as 25 feet and its 19" dome is a perfect match for KVH's TracVision G4/4 satellite TV systems for stylish dual dome installations. The Tracphone F33 package includes the antenna, a transceiver, and a telephone handset and cradle. The system's transceiver serves as the hub for all online communication via the ship's telephone networks and fax machines. Connected to an IP router, Tracphone F33 can also link all shipboard computers to on-shore web-based systems, including e-mail and Internet services. Tracphone F33 can also be used with KVH's Velocity(TM) Acceleration software, which boosts the 9.6 Kbps data channel throughput to approximately 56 Kbps. Tracphone F33 is also fully compatible with Inmarsat's next generation satellites scheduled for launch in 2005, ensuring that a mariner's investment in communications today will continue to pay dividends in the future.
