When Boeing's KC-46A tanker becomes operational with the U.S. Air Force in 2018 it will do so with flight deck and flight control sub-systems from BAE Systems.

The company, touting its supplier role for the program, said it is supplying Boeing with flap/slat controls and yaw damper controls.

On the flight deck, the aircraft will feature BAE's instrument control panels and modules, master dim and test, radio tuning, audio control and management, and caution and warning systems.

"Our responsibilities on Boeing's revolutionary KC-46A tanker are nearly as abundant as the aircraft's roles," the company said.

Flap/slat controls provide the high lift function during takeoff and landing and yaw damper controls enable a smoother ride.

The KC-46A is a new aerial refueling platform. The aircraft is based on the 767 commercial aircraft and is to replacing the aging KC-135 tankers now in use. Boeing was selected in 2011 to build the plane, which will also be able to perform cargo and other transport missions.

BAE Systems highlighted its supplier role at a recent Boeing supplier recognition event.

"I always say 'doing is winning'," said BAE Systems Vice President and General Manager of Commercial Aircraft Solutions Dr. Ehtisham Siddiqui. "I commend the (BAE) team for executing the various developments on time and for providing outstanding support to our customer.

"We truly value our relationship with Boeing and appreciate their recognition of our efforts in support of their tanker program."
