James Benham Appointed L-3 Electron, Microwave And Power Devices President
New York NY (SPX) Nov 25, 2005 L-3 Communications has announced that James D. Benham has been appointed to the newly created position of president of the Electron, Microwave and Power Devices Group within the corporation's Products Group. Mr. Benham will report to Charles J. Schafer, president and chief operating officer of L-3's Products Group. In this new role, Mr. Benham will oversee L-3's Electron Devices and Electron Technologies businesses and he will support Mr. Schafer in activities which will expand and strengthen L-3's position as a leading supplier of electron, microwave and power devices in the military and space marketplace. With over 25 years of technology development, engineering and management experience, Mr. Benham most recently served as president of L-3's Electron Devices division, a position he held since 2000. Prior to his role at L-3, Mr. Benham held the same position for Northrop Grumman and served as the president of Electro-Optical Sensors, Inc., a subsidiary of Intevac Industries, from 1991 to 1995. For 11 years, he also worked at Varian Associates' Electro-Optical Sensors division located in Palo Alto, California, advancing through several positions from director of operations to vice president and general manager in 1988. "This new position will enable us to leverage the technology synergies between our two divisions as we pursue expanded business opportunities in the space, ground, air and maritime power device marketplaces," said Mr. Schafer. "With his demonstrated success at Electron Devices, Jim has a long performance record identifying new promising technologies and applications, and we look forward to his increased contributions in growing our Electron, Microwave and Power Devices Group and meeting the needs of our customer base." Mr. Benham received a BS in Chemistry from the State University of New York at Cortland and an MBA from Lynchburg College in Virginia. He has also completed executive development programs at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard Business School and Stanford University. Additionally, Mr. Benham holds a patent in the night vision field.
