Tehran (AFP) May 20, 2006 Iran said Saturday it would not comment on an EU proposal aimed at resolving its nuclear standoff before the offer was officially submitted to Tehran. "Any comments or judgment now could complicate future conditions. We have to wait until the proposal is officially made," foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told state television. Britain, France and Germany are preparing a package of trade, technology and security benefits if Tehran stops enriching uranium to defuse an escalating international showdown. The proposal says world powers should support Iran's building several light water reactors, set up a nuclear fuel bank and even have the United States drop restrictions on Iran's ability to purchase US commercial airplanes, if Iran suspends its uranium enrichment and cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency. "It is not known yet how much truth there is to this proposal," Asefi said dismissing reports about it as "media speculation".
