IntelSat Wins China Internet Backbone Contract

Washington - December 3 1998 -
INTELSAT has won a contract with China Telecom to provide Internet backbone services via an IntelSat bird at 177E. The five-year lease provides for an 8 Mbit/s link from China to the US, and a 45 Mbit/s return link.

Han Songlin, China Telecom's Deputy Director General, stated, "We are pleased to be working with INTELSAT on this important Internet connection. We realize that satellites are an excellent and cost-effective vehicle for implementing the type of asymmetric links that Internet service requires, and we have been extremely pleased with the technical support provided by the INTELSAT staff and with the reliability which the INTELSAT system offers."

Yao Gao, INTELSAT's Regional Director for Asia, added, "Internet is our fastest growing service. We are pleased that our customers are beginning to recognize the advantages which the INTELSAT system can offer, particularly for Internet backbone connections from regions of the world which are unserved or underserved by cable facilities."

Satellite Launch To Boost DTH In India
Calcutta, India (SPX) Dec 28, 2005
The successful launch Thursday of India's heaviest satellite from spaceport of Kourou in French Guyana may have boosted the country's space research efforts to yet another level, but it has also lifted the spirits of at least three Direct-To-Home televisions broadcasters, one of which has been waiting for years to launch its services in India.
