Indonesia quake survivors face another wet night outside
Yogyakarta, Indonesia (AFP) May 30, 2006 Tens of thousands of homeless earthquake survivors in central Indonesia faced another wet night in the open, with rain beginning to fall over the zone at dusk on Wednesday. The United Nations warned the rain could cause health problems for the survivors, who have already endured several nights in the damp since Saturday's quake, which killed more than 5,800 people. "The evening rain has been continuous. We are a bit worried about it. If this trend continues, we'll have problems with sanitation," Puji Pujiono, the deputy area coordinator for UN operations in the quake zone, told AFP. International aid agencies have begun distributing tents and tarpaulins to those in need, but the supplies were not yet sufficient to meet the demands of the population. The Red Cross estimated that some 200,000 people were made homeless by the quake. Netherlands must boost flood defences
