Dallas TX (SPX) Mar 21, 2006 RouteStep Communications, a division of INX has introduced its FALCoN product, a Forward Area Lightweight Communications Node. Weighing approximately 35 pounds, this complete, Cisco Systems-based, IP communications solution fits in the overhead compartment of an airplane and is easily transported by a single-person. It is ideally suited to address the mobility needs of today's first responders and military personnel. In addition to its lightweight design, the FALCoN is simple to use and is built for durability, allowing the user to establish instantaneous communications almost anywhere in the world and under the most extreme conditions. The FALCoN uses "reach back" capabilities to bring the features of the host network to the field, including voice, video, and data applications. "The recent global natural disasters have proven that the ability to quickly establish communications is critical to assessing the situation and helping those in need," said David Peoples, Vice President of Federal Division for INX. "However, the sophistication of the communications needed has increased significantly. As more and more applications and communications move to the IP network, remote networking requirements and available services move from simple radio and voice to include data and video capabilities as well. Today's first responder groups and military personnel want host network functionality in the field and the FALCoN delivers that in a lightweight and durable package." The rugged unit is powered by proven Cisco Systems technology using the latest in mobile IP communications feature sets. The unit's universal power supply is designed to take power from AC and/or DC power sources. The FALCoN also allows multiple users to share a single WAN connection; there is no need to buy individual satellite terminals or cellular data modems for each individual; minimizing the customer's investment in these services while maximizing utilization. "The ability to differentiate is critical to our channel partner's success," said Chuck Robbins, vice president US and Canada Channels at Cisco Systems. "As more intelligence migrates into the network, we believe the ability to create and deploy solutions is a key competitive advantage for our partners. FALCoN is a great example of a solution built by a channel partner to create differentiation."
Critical Connectivity Integrated into a rugged, injection-molded case, the FALCoN is dust-resistant, moisture-resistant, and crush resistant and is built to take punishment in the field while protecting mission-critical electronics inside. Exterior MIL-SPEC Ethernet ports are included with dust-proof, moisture-proof caps.
Built for Punishment FALCoN hardware design allows options such as GPS, hardware encryption, and hardened PC server hardware. Custom solutions can be designed to fit individual needs, including integrating into emergency vehicles, meeting environmental requirements, and building full scale alone mobile communication systems.
Power Options FALCoN employs a universal auto-sensing power supply that allows for a wide range of AC or DC power hookups. Vehicle specific power outlet cables are available.
