Hughes Telematics has announced that the Chrysler Group will be the first automaker to integrate its leading telematics solution as the standard in future vehicles. Hughes Telematics recently revealed key elements of its technology and service solutions, which range from security, infotainment and remote diagnostics to unique multicasting capabilities. Together, they create a new standard in vehicle connectivity, one that enables Chrysler Group's vision for the connected future of the automobile.

"We're pleased to support Chrysler Group's strong commitment to technology leadership and look forward to the day when fully connected vehicles are an industry-wide standard," said Jeff Leddy, chief executive officer, Hughes Telematics. "By putting this technology stake in the ground, Chrysler Group has signaled that the time to start acting on the potential of vehicle telematics has come."

Hughes Telematics patented technology, unparalleled resources and innovative services portfolio create an ideal and highly customizable OEM partnership opportunity. Because the company's products are powered by proprietary hybrid terrestrial and satellite-based technology, OEM partners like Chrysler Group can take advantage of end-to-end telematics solutions that span multiple categories of dealer and customer-oriented communication services and features.

The Hughes Telematics technology creates the possibility of a vehicle gateway for offering a host of remotely upgradeable services and applications, many of them never before practical. From multicasting information directly to narrowly defined vehicle groups to someday even remotely upgrading vehicle systems, manufacturers and their dealer partners will have a powerful new arsenal of vehicle communications tools and channels at their disposal.

"Our commitment to customers has always been to set trends with the power to significantly transform the driving and ownership experience," said George Murphy, Senior Vice President -- Global Marketing and Product Planning, Chrysler Group. "Because we operate in a relentless environment of change, our vision for the vehicles of tomorrow needs to be far-reaching. In Hughes Telematics, we have a partner whose vision of how technology can and should shape the role of future vehicles matches our own."

Detroit (AFP) Jan 04, 2007
DaimlerChrysler AG, hoping to expand outside the tough US market, Thursday announced plans to build an all-new sedan in Beijing and to export a Taiwan-built cargo van to Mexico. Chrysler Group chief executive Tom LaSorda said the plans formed part of a strategy aimed at doubling the company's sales outside of its North America base, where it is struggling in the face of an onslaught by Asian rivals.
