Honeywell Boeing And Sierra Nevada Pursue Next Phase Of JPALS Program

Honeywell has announced that it has signed a teaming agreement with Boeing and Sierra Nevada to pursue the System Development and Demonstration Phase of the Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) program.

Honeywell will serve as team leader for the pursuit of the Department of Defense's (DoD's) program, providing its Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) � Satellite Landing System (SLS) technology.

"The DGPS system is designed to meet stringent requirements for operational availability, integrity, and safety in low visibility and adverse weather conditions on land and at sea," said John Oelschlaeger, Honeywell Director for Satellite Landing Systems. "The system is military and civil interoperable and will deliver a next-generation precision landing system to the warfighter."

Honeywell and Sierra Nevada will combine their expertise in commercial and military DGPS ground station development and manufacturing, with Honeywell and Boeing's expertise in avionics development, aircraft integration and operational test and evaluation, to achieve program objectives for reduction of manufacturing and integration risks prior to a production decision.

JPALS is a family of systems being developed under a single program to meet the mission requirements of all DoD Services. It will be used anywhere a U.S. military aircraft has to land, including fixed bases, tactical bases, and on ships. JPALS will provide both military and civilian aircraft with precise navigation data for improved safety of flight operations in the terminal area, including approach, landing, departure, and missed approach procedures.

"The Honeywell/Boeing/SNC teaming agreement is important because it brings together the world's leaders in DGPS landing system technology to address the DoD's compelling need for an interoperable precision landing system," Oelschlaeger said. "The bottom line for the DoD is that deploying a single aircraft landing system which allows all military aircraft to land in adverse weather at all theater locations is a force multiplier."

ManTech Wins US Support Army Contract

ManTech International has announced that it has received a task order to support the Product Director for Counter Radio-controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (CREW). The CREW systems, part of the Warlock Program, will support DOD forces deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom in the Southwest Asia region.
