Goldin to Give Keynote At Space Frontier Conference
Washington - September 13, 1999 - NASA Administrator Dan Goldin will give a keynote address to the attendees of Space Frontier Conference VIII, Sept. 23-26, at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Los Angeles. Mr. Goldin is expected to make a significant policy address on space commercialization to the leaders of the entrepreneurial commercial space industry. The Space Frontier Conference, now in its eighth year, is the world's largest annual meeting dedicated to opening space for commerce and free enterprise. It attracts leaders of government, industry, finance, and the media for presentations on emerging markets, ventures, and technologies that can open the space frontier. Entitled "Launching the Space Millennium", the conference will open on Thursday with strategies for reusable launch vehicles, the cornerstone to a space-faring economy. Mr. Goldin's keynote on Friday will begin a day devoted to Space Station commercialization and privatization. Other conference sessions will examine space tourism, how to protect Earth from asteroids (and create new resources for an expanding 21st Century civilization), advanced breakthrough technologies, commercial missions to the Moon, asteroids, and Mars, a commercial space pilot workshop, and space property rights. Commercial space executives currently scheduled to speak include: Buzz Aldrin (ShareSpace), Eric Anderson (Space Adventures), Dana Andrews (Boeing Reusable Space Systems), Mitchell Burnside Clapp (Pioneer Rocketplane), Joe Carroll (Tether Applications), Dr. Costas Cassapakis (L'Garde), Bob Davis (Kelly Space & Technology), Dr. William Gaubatz (Universal Spacelines), Mark Gittleman (Oceaneering), Gary Hudson (Rotary Rocket Comp.), Chuck Lauer (Spacevision), Bob Lindberg (Orbital Sciences), Jeff Manber (Space Business Archive), Jay Manifold (Applied Space Resources), Ben Muniz (Hughes Space & Communications), Lon Rains (Space News), Ron Rosepink (Space Access LLC), Lonnie Schorer (Resident Cruise Ships), Jess Sponable (Universal Spacelines), and Bob Werb (Orbital Properties). Joining Mr. Goldin, and the leaders of the commercial space industry, will be a variety of NASA executives, including: Lori Garver (Assoc. Administrator for Policy and Plans), Dan Tam (Special Assistant for Commercialization), Gene Austin (X-33 Program Manager), and Ken Cox (Johnson Space Center). Ray Bradbury, a leading science fiction and fantasy author, will make a rare appearance to speak at lunch on Thursday.
