The German procurement agency has ordered 100 Eagle V Protected Command Vehicles from General Dynamics European Land Systems.

The vehicles for the German military's GFF Klasse 2 program will be jointly manufactured by company facilities in Germany and Switzerland.

The monetary value of the award was not disclosed but General Dynamics said deliveries begin this year and continue through 2015 if all options are exercised. Among those options are one for an additional 76 vehicles.

The vehicle can be used for a variety of missions through the use of modular add-on kits. It is in the 10-ton weight class, is 17.7 feet long, can carry five people and has a top road speed of 68 miles per hour.

The company said it can handle gradients up to 60 percent and comes in 4X4 and 6X6 variants.

"The 245 HP Cummins turbocharged diesel engine -- in connection with an Allison five-speed automatic transmission -- the remarkable De Dion axle system with the patented roll stabilizer, the tire pressure control system and the permanent all-wheel-drive give the Eagle V superior on-road and off-road mobility," said GDELS, which has its headquarters in Spain.
