Taunton - Mar 16, 2004 General Dynamics C4 Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics has received a $6.7 million delivery order as part of a $47.5 million firm-fixed-price contract for baseband node (BBN) large extension node (LEN) configuration and BBN-LEN configuration spares. The contracting agency is the U.S. Army Communications- Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth, N.J. The baseband node is a dynamic and rapidly deployable early entry communications system. Housed in a lightweight shelter and mounted on an expanded capacity HMMWV, the BBN provides Joint Task Force (JTF) warfighters with voice, video, and data communications using commercial and military satellite systems. In addition, it provides the tactical user an interface to strategic data networks, commercial, Joint, combined, and coalition communications systems across multiple security levels. "The U.S. Army's baseband node is designed to be flexible and adaptable," said John Martin, General Dynamics vice president & general manager of Communication International Systems. "It can be used to support large deployments or small, fast moving early entry units like the Stryker Brigade Combat Teams." The BBN is one of several communications initiatives that will help the Army achieve its missions with a smaller footprint. In addition to Joint Forces, BBN is compatible with Mobile Subscriber Equipment (MSE), TRI-TAC, and Tactical High Speed Data Network (THSDN) systems.
