GMPCS Provides Satellite Communications For Florida Emergency Management System
Rockville MD (SPX) Sep 09, 2004 GMPCS Personal Communications is leading the charge to provide emergency satellite phone communications to people in Florida affected by Hurricane Frances. "GMPCS is providing an enormous stock of phones and service to Florida's emergency management, police, fire, EMS and extensive corporate base," said Craig Van Wagner, president of GMPCS. GMPCS remained open for business even through the height of the hurricane. The staff barricaded themselves inside the building manning phones, filling emergency orders, and providing non-stop customer service. In response to Frances, GMPCS provided more than 400 phones to emergency response teams, local businesses and essential public services, including Florida Power and Light (FPL). Housing one of the largest inventory of satellite phones for Inmarsat, Iridium and Globalstar in the Americas, GMPCS has answered the call for Frances as well as Hurricane Charley just three weeks ago. With the peak of the annual hurricane season approaching, GMPCS is helping many local governments and companies throughout the eastern seaboard in establishing emergency communications and back-up plans in the event of a disaster. "With the next possible hurricane already forming in the Atlantic, many companies are not waiting to see which way the storm will turn, but are taking action now to bolster their communications systems via satellite," Van Wagner said.
