Lanham - January 12, 1999 - Final Analysis has selected General Dynamics to supply command and data handling space processors for its Little LEO global satellite system. The satellite system will address mass markets in space-based commercial mobile and fixed two-way digital data information services expected to generate multibillion dollar revenues within a few years. Service is expected to begin in 2001. Forming a strategic partnership, General Dynamics Information Systems has made an equity investment in Final Analysis Communication Services. For Final Analysis, the partnership signals strong equity support from the corporate sector while providing its satellite constellation with a new generation space processor offering significant enhancements in speed, reliability, and price. The General Dynamics Information Systems space processor, introduced in October 1998, is modular, based on commercial PowerPC technology, and capable of throughput in the range of 450+ million instructions per second (MIPS). The processor serves as the "brain" of the satellite and will support telemetry, tracking and control functions and user applications. The global satellite system will provide low-cost, high quality two-way data transmission and messaging services such as mobile asset tracking, remote monitoring and control applications, data acquisition, two-way paging and e- mail using small, affordable mobile and fixed terminals. Target markets include utility automation, asset tracking for rail and trucking companies and messaging services for areas underserved by terrestrial networks.
