Evolution Solar Forms Solar Technology Advisory Committee
Gilbert AZ (SPX) Jun 26, 2008 Evolution Solar has formed a Solar Technology Advisory Committee (STAC) to further qualify and commercialize solar technologies and research market opportunities in the solar powered energy industry. The members of the Committee will be nominated by, appointed by, and will serve at the discretion of the Executive Committee and will consist of at least two (2) members of the Executive Committee. The company expects to nominate and accept persons who can assist the company in pursuing its goals and expects several forth-coming nominations to be under consideration in the near future. Members of the Committee may receive fees for their service as Committee members as determined by the Executive Committee (EC). Such fees may include retainers or per meeting fees and shall be paid in such form of consideration as is determined by the EC in accordance with the applicable rules of NASDAQ and the SEC. "The United States currently generates less than 0.1% of its electricity through solar energy," Mr. Kaapke explained. "However, a new study by Clean Edge and Co-op America shows that the US could be 10% solar by 2025." Major utilities like Southern California Edison and PG and E have been signing up for huge solar installations in the hundreds of megawatts. Duke Energy has proposed to install 20 megawatts of solar distributed generation capacity at a cost of $100 million. While the federal regulatory environment for solar is far from ideal, Duke's decision to invest in solar is aided by North Carolina's renewable portfolio standard. A similar mechanism is what has driven California to be a leading light in the domestic solar power push, and is also the key reason why companies like First Solar, SunPower, and Trina Solar have taken a shine to the U.S. market.
