Munich - Jun 04, 2003 European Space Imaging announced today that the company has signed a framework contract with the European Community titled "Supply of Satellite Remote Sensing Data to European Institutes Services". Under this framework contract European Space Imaging will provide high-resolution global Ikonos imagery for operational and research activities of the European Commission, especially within the institutes of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy. The contract will have a duration of 2 years with the possibility of a successive extension of another year. The Commission services are interested in using the high-resolution satellite remote sensing data for the assessment and monitoring of land use and infrastructure, disaster and hazard mitigation, geophysical mapping, environmental mapping and planning, and marine and coastal zone monitoring, mainly within but also beyond Europes borders. The invitation to tender was conducted by the Institute for the Protection and the Security of the Citizen (IPSC) at JRC. This is the first time that the Joint Research Centre issued a tender for high resolution imagery. "We look forward to supporting projects of the European Commission with up-to-date satellite imagery", said Mr. Adrian Zevenbergen, Director of Sales of European Space Imaging. "Local tasking of the Ikonos satellite allows us to efficiently schedule image collections over Europe by literally taking last-minute weather information into account. "As the only high resolution satellite imagery provider covering entire Europe through direct tasking, reception and local processing, we believe we can offer the European Commission and its customers a level of service that is a cut above other providers." "We are very excited that for the first time very high resolution satellites, such as Ikonos, are now covered under a framework contract of the European Commission", said Mr. Jacques Delinc, head of the MARS Unit of the IPSC. European Space Imagings ground station has been tasking and collecting for European Commission projects since April 2003. European Space Imaging is a supplier of high quality, high-resolution, global Ikonos satellite imagery and derived information products to customers in Europe. European Space Imaging is headquartered in Munich, Germany, and is a commercial Regional Affiliate of Space Imaging Inc.
