EchoStar VII is based on the Lockheed Martin A2100 AX satellite bus optimized for direct broadcast applications. The spacecraft, with nearly 10 kilowatts of power, will provide Ku-band services over the continental United States and will include spot-beam coverage to enable EchoStar to serve customers with local broadcast channels in the top U.S. markets.

The satellite, which will be assembled in the Lockheed Martin Commercial Satellite Center in Sunnyvale, CA, is planned for delivery to EchoStar in late 2001. The satellite's orbital location will be 119 degrees West Longitude.

EchoStar VII is the fifth satellite that Littleton, CO-based EchoStar Communications Corporation has awarded Lockheed Martin. The satellite is the third based on the award-winning A2100 design.

Satellite Launch To Boost DTH In India

The successful launch Thursday of India's heaviest satellite from spaceport of Kourou in French Guyana may have boosted the country's space research efforts to yet another level, but it has also lifted the spirits of at least three Direct-To-Home televisions broadcasters, one of which has been waiting for years to launch its services in India.
