Brussels (AFP) March 15, 2011
EU governments voted Tuesday to grant 182 million euros in aid to help Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and EU membership candidate Croatia rebuild areas ravaged by floods last year.

The money, worth 254 million dollars at the time of passing, was approved by the 27 EU states after the countries applied for aid from the European Union Solidarity Fund following flooding in May and June 2010.

Changing numbers previously agreed by the European Commission, finance ministers agreed to grant 105 million euros to Poland, 25 million to Romania, 22.5 million to Hungary, 20 million to Slovakia, five million to the Czech Republic and almost four million to Croatia.

Minutes from the meeting showed that Austria, Belgium, Finland, Latvia and Sweden voted against the aid, while Portugal, Slovenia and Britain abstained.
