EDO Wins Contract To Support Unmanned Aircraft
New York NY (SPX) Nov 20, 2006 EDO Corporation has received a five-year task order to provide programmatic support to the Army's Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Project Office. The task order has a ceiling value of $37 million, with $1.1 million initial funding. Unmanned Aircraft Systems are remotely piloted or self-piloted aircraft that can carry cameras, communications equipment, weapons or other devices. EDO will provide services such as strategic planning; acquisition support; analyzing costs, training, and testing; and logistics planning. "The technology and diverse capabilities of unmanned aircraft systems have proven that they can accomplish complex missions without endangering a pilot's life. We are honored to help the Army get these critical assets to soldiers in the field," said James M. Smith, EDO's chief executive officer. The UAS Project Office manages the following systems: Raven, Shadow, Hunter, Warrior, and Future Forces Class I - IV UAS. These systems provide reconnaissance, surveillance and weapons delivery. The task order was competitively awarded under the Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) Expedited Professional and Engineering Support Services (EXPRESS) contract. In 2005, CAS Inc, which was acquired by EDO in September, won the Army's AMCOM EXPRESS competition in the "Programmatic" domain. EXPRESS is a contractual vehicle that enables AMCOM to acquire qualified, cost-effective services in a timely and efficient manner. EXPRESS enables EDO-CAS to continue as a premier systems engineering and technical assistance contractor providing support to projects at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville. Boeing ScanEagle Achieves Major Flight Milestones
St. Louis MO (SPX) Nov 17, 2006Boeing and its ScanEagle unmanned aerial system (UAS) team member Insitu have achieved two program milestones. First, the team recently logged the longest continuous flight of its UAS by flying a preproduction prototype Block D ScanEagle for 22 hours and eight minutes at the Boeing test range in Boardman, Ore. The team flew the test vehicle in a simulated mission profile, completing the flight with a fuel reserve. |
