Dresden Chosen For Site Of New E-paper Factory
Berlin (AFP) Jan 03, 2007 Plastic Logic, a high-tech firm based in Cambridge, is to build a factory to make handheld electronic reading devices in Dresden, east Germany, the regional economics ministry and the British firm said on Wednesday. The factory will produce flexible display modules for "take anywhere, read anywhere" electronic reader products, Plastic Logic said in a statement. The technology will use a wireless Internet connection to allow customers to purchase and download a book or newspaper. The Dresden factory would be the first such manufacturing facility worldwide, said the regional state economics ministry for Saxony in a separate statement. The plant would create 140 new jobs directly and as well as additional jobs with suppliers in the region. Plastic Logic estimates that the market for such modules could grow to 41.6 million in 2010.
