El Segundo - Nov 12, 2003 Nine years after national launch, DirecTV, Inc., a provider of digital multichannel television service and a unit of Hughes Electronics Corporation said Tuesday that this past weekend it activated its 12 millionth customer. With 12 million customers, DirecTV is available in more than one of every nine TV households in the United States. "DirecTV continues to redefine the television viewing experience and has become one of the fastest growing television services in the world, having added more than 1 million net new customers in the last year," said Roxanne Austin, president and COO, DirecTV, Inc. "With our leading technology and products, our 12 million customers now have access to an even more robust programming lineup, the best in digital video recording (DVR) and high-definition technology, and industry-leading customer service. "We could not have achieved this major milestone without the hard work and dedication of all DirecTV employees and the support of our programmers, retailers and partner companies, who have believed in us for the last nine years." Austin continued, "Clearly, if we continue to experience such strong subscriber growth, we could see an upside to our fourth quarter net subscriber guidance and corresponding downward pressure on our operating profit before depreciation and amortization guidance."
