Death toll in single China quake city hits 3,000: state media
Mianzhu, China (AFP) May 14, 2008 The powerful earthquake that struck China's Sichuan province has killed 3,000 people in the city of Mianzhu alone, state media reported early Wednesday, significantly raising earlier figures. The local disaster relief headquarters said rescuers had been able to pull 500 people alive out of the debris of collapsed buildings. More than 10,000 people were injured in Monday's quake and 20,000 in three outer villages were still out of reach, it added, cited by Xinhua.
