Connexion by Boeing Turns To Internap For Faster In-Flight Connectivity
Atlanta NJ - Mar 24, 2004 Internap Network Services Corporation has been selected by Connexion by Boeing to support delivery of high-speed in-flight connectivity to corporate and commercial airline passengers and operators. Internap will connect to satellite ground stations in the U.S. and Asia through its private network access points (P-NAPs) in Denver, Seattle and Tokyo. From each P-NAP, Internap will provide its high performance Internet service to support two-way satellite broadband for Internet access, data and entertainment programming to aircrafts operating in these regions. "Connexion by Boeing is erasing the boundaries of the Internet and making airline passengers more productive and more satisfied with their flying experience," said David Abrahamson, vice president of sales and chief marketing officer at Internap. "Connexion by Boeing is a great example of Internap's role in enabling innovative companies to deliver transformational Internet-based services." "Having seamless connectivity between our international ground stations is critical to our customers' service experience in flight and to the overall success of our business," said Connexion by Boeing Director of System Development Ed Laase. "Selecting a provider with an international footprint and experience in intelligent routing is critical, and having Internap on the Connexion team meets our business need in that regard." Connexion by Boeing enables airline passengers to connect their laptops to wireless LANs or on-board Ethernet jacks to access the Internet and other real-time news and information. The service is unique in that it enables mobile professionals to securely log on to their firewall-protected corporate intranets, accessing the same digital resources they use in their office. The data transmission rates for each user are comparable to DSL or cable modem services. Internap's intelligent routing model provides the high performance IP metrics required for satellite transmission of broadband connectivity. Internap leads the industry with an Internet-wide service level agreement (SLA) with guarantees on availability, latency and packet loss. Connexion by Boeing is currently available to the executive services market in the U.S., including private and government aircraft. Full-scale commercial launch of the Connexion by Boeing service is scheduled to begin in spring 2004, beginning with trans-Atlantic and Asia-Europe routes. In December, Connexion by Boeing received a World Travel Award, the highest honor in the travel and tourism industry, for the Leading High-Speed In-flight Internet Service Provider.
