China wants to purchase Russia's S-400 anti-aircraft missile system to replace the S-300 system, a military and technical cooperation official told reporters on May 6.

China has placed an order but didn't specify the required amount.

Russia will also modernize a spate of missile systems it earlier supplied to Jordan, a spokesman for Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport said on Monday, citing a bilateral agreement to this effect.

Valery Varlamov said that the Strela-10, the Osa-AKM and the Sjilka anti-aircraft systems have been put on service in Jordan since the mid-1980s.

Russia wants to protect Europe from the south
Russia may take part in an anti-missile shield to protect Europe from threats coming from the south, Russia's Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov stated at an ABM conference after its participants visited a Russian radar station in Sofrino near Moscow.

The station could be part of the shield if Russia makes a respective deal with the US and NATO, the official said.

The Ministry of Defense invited foreign defense officials to show that Russia has all means for international ABM cooperation.
