China Claims Success With New Anti-Missile Weapon
Beijing (AFP) May 29, 2000 - China said Monday it had successfully tested a new weapon which was capable of shooting down an incoming cruise missile travelling at speed and at low altitude. "In the course of exercises carried out recently in the northeast, eight divisions of the Lanzhou military region successfully tested an anti-air raid missile which intercepted a simulated cruise missile," said the military's newspaper, the People's Liberation Army Daily.
