Jamieson will continue executive oversight of Boeing's Information Technology, Phantom Works and Intellectual Property Management organizations, the company said in a news release.

He now also will be responsible for leading efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Boeing's engineering, operations and technology functions, including the technology planning, program management, quality assurance and supplier management functions.

In this new role, Jamieson will continue to report directly to Boeing Chairman, President and CEO Jim McNerney and serve on Boeing's Executive Council.

"To keep Boeing performing well, we have very aggressive long-range goals for improving its growth and productivity," McNerney said.

"The formation of this new organization under Jim Jamieson will help ensure that the level of functional discipline needed to meet those goals is achieved in the engineering, operations and technology functions."

As part of this organizational change, several other new assignments have been made to further reinforce the focus of the Engineering, Operations and Technology organization on achieving functional excellence across the enterprise. This includes assigning Bob Krieger, president of the Phantom Works advanced R&D unit, as Boeing chief technology officer, reporting to Jamieson.

In addition, key executives with leadership roles in the engineering, operations and program management functions of the Commercial Airplanes (BCA) and Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) business units will now also be functionally aligned to Jamieson while continuing to report to the business units.

These executives include Jim Morris, BCA vice president of Engineering and Manufacturing; Steve Schaffer, BCA vice president of Global Partners; John Tracy, IDS vice president of Engineering and Mission Assurance; John Van Gels, IDS vice president of Operations and Supplier Management; and Steve Goo, IDS vice president of Program Management and Business Excellence.

"This outstanding team and integrated structure provides a more streamlined approach to implementing best practices, simplified processes, standard systems, common technologies and critical skills across the enterprise," said Jamieson.

"As a result, we should be able to make functional improvements much more quickly and effectively in support of Boeing's near- and long-term business objectives."

Jamieson joined Boeing in 1973 and has held increasingly responsible positions at the business unit and corporate levels. Prior to his recent position as Boeing CTO, he has served as senior vice president of Airplane Programs for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, executive vice president of Single Aisle Airplane Programs, vice president/general manager of 737/757 programs, and vice president of Aircraft Systems and Interiors. He also serves (or has served) in leadership roles on various government, university and professional committees.
